Researcher biography

A/Prof. Hongzhi Yin works as ARC Future Fellow and associate professor with The University of Queensland, Australia. He was recognized as Field Leader of Data Mining & Analysis in The Australian's Research 2020 magazine. He received his doctoral degree from Peking University in July 2014, and his PhD Thesis won the highly competitive Distinguished Doctor Degree Thesis Award of Peking University. His current main research interests include recommender system, graph embedding and mining, chatbots, social media analytics and mining, edge machine learning, trustworthy machine learning, decentralized and federated learning, and smart healthcare. He has published 180+ papers, including 15 publications in Top 1% (CNCI), 45 Q1, 95+ CCF A and 60+ CCF B, 95+ CORE A* and 60+ CORE A, such as KDD (x15), IEEE TKDE (x13), ICDE (x20), VLDB (x5), SIGIR (x10), ACM TOIS (x11), IJCAI (x6), AAAI (x4), VLDB Journal (x2), ICDM (x3), ACM Multimedia (x4), WSDM (x4), WWW (x6), JBHI (x2), SIGMOD, TIP. He is the leading author (first author or corresponding author) for 95+ of them. He has won 6 Best Paper Awards such as ICDE'19 Best Paper Award, DASFAA'20 Best Student Paper Award, and ACM Computing Reviews' 21 Annual Best of Computing Notable Books and Articles as well as one invited paper in the special issue of KAIS on the best papers of ICDM 2018. He has received ARC Future Fellowship 2021, ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) within his first year of obtaining his PhD, ARC Discovery Project 2019 (Sole CI) as an early-career researcher, UQ Foundation Research Excellence Award 2019 as the first winner of this award in School of ITEE since the establishment of this award 20 years ago. He is currently serving as Associate Editor for Springer Nature Computer Science, Editorial Board of Journal of Computer Science and Technology (JCST), Big Data Networks (specialty section of Frontiers in ICT, Frontiers in Digital Humanities, Frontiers in Big Data and Frontiers in Computer Science), Information, and International Journal of Software and Informatics (IJSI), Guest Editors of ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology, Information Systems, and World Wide Web.
